Housing Services (Homes for Special Care Program)
For adults with a psychiatric disability coming out of hospital and unable to live on their own, Housing Services is a department of the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, working to improve access to safe affordable housing and supports for people with serious mental illness. We do that in a variety of ways.

We are responsible for the local provision of services offered under the province-wide Homes for Special Care Program (HSC), Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. The HSC Program aims to support people coming out of a psychiatric hospital who are unable to live on their own. All HSC Homes are privately owned and operated. Homes are located in various areas throughout Simcoe County and Muskoka.

We provide annual licencing, as well as regular inspection and monitoring of the Homes. Supports to residents include: 24 hour supervision, room and board, financial assistance for clothing, dental, medication, eye care, social recreation, transportation, and a variety of supports, on an as needed basis.

Housing Services also works closely with our internal and external partners to identify barriers to accessing safe affordable housing in the community.

Patient/Client and Family Council (PCFC)
The PCFC strives to bring the voice of service users to the forefront of planning and policy tables to drive system improvements. Hearing the voices of lived experience is crucial. We can share our personal stories and help organizations to understand the good and the not so good experiences people accessing Mental Health services face.

All PCFC staff and volunteers have personal experience with the mental health or addictions system, either directly or supporting a loved one. We understand what it is like to live each day being affected by mental illness. Our number one objective is ensuring that people living with mental illness and addictions have the best quality of life, both within the hospital setting and in the community.

The Council offers resource information, support, and education to service users, providers, and are contracted by a number of organizations, to partner for system improvement both locally and at the broader regional/provincial level.
